EDF Energy is one of the largest energy companies in the UK, generating around 7% of the UK's electricity and employing over 12,000 people. It was created following the merge of the previously regionalised brands of Seeboard, London Electricity and SWEB in 2002 and they now have a combined total of approximately 5 million customers.

The group is owned by the French company Électricité de France which is where the name EDF derives from.

How can I compare EDF Energy with other UK energy suppliers?

Most gas and electricity suppliers, including EDF Energy, represent a good deal for certain households, according to how much gas or electricity you use and the region you live in.

The best way to find out if a supplier (including EDF Energy) is going to suit your needs and save you money on your bills is to know your usage of energy. SimplySwitch has developed a free and impartial gas and electricity comparison calculator to help you find the best deal. Suppliers' rates and tariffs differ depending on the amount of energy you use and where you live. The calculator can estimate your usage based on the size of your property and other factors, but having a recent bill to hand is always a good idea as it will give us a much clearer picture of your gas and electricity usage.
