What is renewable or 'green' energy?

Green energy is energy that comes from renewable resources, i.e. sources which are inexhaustible or replaceable such as the sun or wind. When energy is generating by burning fossil fuels such as oil, gas or coal, this causes an increase in the levels of carbon dioxide (C02) and other polluting greenhouse gases in our atmosphere. This contributes to the heating up of our planet, a condition we all know as Global Warming.

However, if your energy comes from the sun or from the wind, there's no depletion of existing resources and the demand for fossil fuel decreases. By switching to a supplier that provides renewable electricity, you can have less of a negative impact on the environment and help look after our planet. The main sources of domestic renewable energy in the UK are;

WIND: On and off shore wind turbines: with its highlands of Scotland and continuous coastline, Britain is one of the best place countries for wind energy generation in Europe

WATER: Usually called hydroelectricity, this is the energy captured by electricity generators from the movement of water through turbines.

SUN: The sun's energy can be stored by solar panels and converted to electricity or used to heat water.

SEA: Power generators are floated off or near shore to capture wave energy and turn it into electricity.

We can advice and offer you a tariff that comes from a range of these renewable sources. If you switch to renewable energy, the electricity you receive arrives through the same cables and wires, but for every unit of electricity you use, your supplier will put an equal amount of green energy into the National Grid.

Together with energy efficiency improvements: these can meet our future energy needs.
