How to reduce your energy bills

Everyone wants to avoid receiving a large energy bill. The amount we are charged by our gas or electricity supplier is based on several factors. Primarily the amount of energy we have used, and the amount the energy supplier charges per unit. Use our free impartial comparison service to compare all of the energy suppliers in your region. You can reduce your household gas and electricity bill by following our energy saving tips:

  1. Open your curtains in the morning to let the sun shine through south-facing windows.
  2. Close your curtains at dusk to stop heat escaping.
  3. Switch off lights in empty rooms. Up to 20% of your energy bill could be lighting.
  4. Avoid covering radiators with clothes or curtains. This will prevent the energy heating the room.
  5. Buy energy saving light bulbs - they last longer than ordinary bulbs and use up to a fifth of the electricity.
  6. Draught-proof your windows and doors - draughts can be fixed quickly and easily.
