What rules do doorstep sales people have to follow?
Below is a list rules that doorstep sales people have to follow:
Doorstep sales agents MUST:
- Clearly show you an ID (identity) badge showing their name, the energy company they represent and a telephone number to ring to verify the ID.
- Call only between the hours of 9 o'clock in the morning and 8 o'clock in the evening (unless you ask them to call outside these hours).
- Be sure you are the person responsible for the bills.
- Be honest about the reason they are calling. They must not mislead you.
- Leave the premises at any time they are asked.
- Seek permission from the warden before visiting anyone in sheltered accommodation.
- Give you truthful information about prices.
- The sales agent must give you a copy of the signed contract, and information giving:
- company contact details
- price information
- agent's name and ID no
- a simple explanation of how the contract can be cancelled within 7 days (the 'cooling off' period)
- and who to contact if you have a complaint
